Decorating Ninjas

There's something bugging me in the decorating world at the moment. I'm not sure where it came from and why its hanging around for so long.

I recently worked in an exclusive interiors showroom having to do this activity everyday - I may even have RSI doing it.

These cushions look as pointy as the sunburst mirrors.

You see, when oh when did some bright spark think I know I'll do some karate on the cushions then it'll look perfect. I know some love it, some have mixed feelings and some like me do not understand it.

These bunny ears or devils horns atop the cushions look quite frankly ridiculous and contrived. After smashing about 50 of these a day over the last few weeks I'm not sure if I qualify for a decorating black belt or a session locked away.

Either this decorator had a very bad day or got too excited smashing these cushions.

This is borderline, but still odd.

What are your thoughts, do you like to karate your cushions too or are you a straightener?

  1. I agree with you, I don't like the pointy pillows. I studied the arts and one thing I remember vividly is that angles create a feeling of turmoil instead of calm. It's just not organic. Why this is becoming a "thing" I just don't get.

    Hi Stephanie,

I think you've hit the nail (or was that cushion ha ha) on head. All those pointy angles do make an interior feel on edge, you look at the pictures in my post and they do not look right and it is the cushions.

Whoever created this trend is certainly not owning up for good reason, so I'm appealing to all the karate kid cushion chopper followers to bow out now and save your creative reputations.

Squished, squashed, fluffed, plumped, scattered and natural cushions please come back - your interior needs you!

    Hi Zoe,

Hahahaha I really enjoyed your commentary on this topic....considering my business is mostly cushions I am faced with this problem on a daily basis!!!

Sometimes as much as I want cushions to be nice and straight they just go pointy on me!!!! Very frustrating. I fluff, punch, shake and squash them and sometimes they just have a mind of their own!

    Have a great day.

  4. Hmm, not a fan of the pointy cushion either, I think they look like rabbit ears too! What's wrong with normal, straight ones of old?? Not going to go along with this trend... xo Kirsty
