Tropical Outdoor Wellness Centres

I've been designing bathrooms with my colleague for 2 new display homes in Brisbane over the past week.

It's amazing how quickly and how much bathroom design has changed. We went from the utility room to the home spa and now bathroom philosophy has evolved into the wellness centre.

No longer is this practical area of the home just for cleaning or self indulging, it's now somewhere you should place great value on taking care of your health.

That translates into a space you need to look after yourself in, with all the latest and greatest fixtures and fittings possible. Whether that's a spa or steam bath, a chromotheraphy shower or a bathroom that opens out to nature but still has all the mod cons necessary for 21st century grooming and personal care.

I know it's marketing, but it's a lovely concept. Taking a once rather dull space into a highly desired inspirational escape - well it could almost be as good as a holiday.

So, lets indulge a little and escape to some of these amazing outdoor wellness centres.

A cool ceiling drencher, these are becoming
quite popular with recessed ceiling ones emerging on the market.

Such a tranquil place. really love the oak timber against the fresh
white and that beautiful blue sea - heaven.

This has to be the coolest bath. To see the fish below
whilst you bathe - this is what I call relaxation and fun.

Simple Mediterranean inspired outdoor shower, proving
it doesn't have to flash to be cool.

Simple seaside inspired outdoor shower, great
for showering off from the beach.

I'm cheating here, it's not quite an outdoor bathroom,
but the integration and materials blend so well to
combine the bathroom with the outdoor space - it might as well be
an outdoor bathroom.

This is the outdoor bathroom at Goldeneye in Jamaica,
tropical lush surroundings make this space a private
oasis - perfect for a Bond girl.

A modern yet simplistic approach.

Very zen, Japanese inspired bathing.

A beautiful image, back to basics bathing.
So romantic with the netting, bath time
should be like this everyday!

Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside...

These are my kind of sheds!

Sheds beside the sea.

I grew up with these on the English coast, slowly they went into decline as people took exotic holidays abroad, now they are the ultimate seaside accessory.

I'm so happy the beach hut has been resurrected they are so much fun, all brightly coloured they scream summer holidays.

If I owned one it would certainly have to be aqua coloured with a twist of vintage and lashings of coastal accessories.

Ahhhh, I do like to be beside the seaside...

English beach huts all in a row.

Simple, quaint and cute - as well as practical.

Stylised beach hut fabric - how cute.

Beach huts in Scarborough, brilliantly coloured.

Even the birds have beach huts!

The vintage look so suits beach hut interiors.
Loving the Cath Kidston look.

Beach huts in Melbourne, Australia - we need more of these
they're awesome.

Love this simple illustration.

I bought my daughter a pink one of these, beach hut
money box - even comes with a seagull you can sit on
top of the box.

Flip Flop Friday - The Week That Was...

I have had a rather extraordinary week.

As a designer, I have surpassed challenges set on 2 high profile display homes, soon to be delivered on site.

I have encouraged my team to be brave in design because it's the only way forward and beyond the crowd.

I have opened up possibilities, crossed over industries and got people talking.

And I have discovered the work of an extraordinary designer, Stuart Membery, and had the real pleasure of chatting to him and showcasing Oceania Island Living.

What a week!

Thank goodness it's flip flop Friday.

Time for some serious R & R.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Design Icon Celebrates Colonial Plantation Style

Be prepared my island friends to absolutely fall in love with these stunning interiors below from a very talented designer, Stuart Membery.

A celebrated fashion designer from the 80's/90's who famously brought the Esprit brand to Australia. Who was presented the Australian Bi-Centenary Award by HRH Prince & Princess of Wales and who has successfully crossed the divide from fashion to interior design.

He is an Aussie design icon and has now further expanded his talents into the world of Architecture.

So to my newsflash, I had the most wonderful surprise yesterday to hear from the man himself and who has personally endorsed Oceania Island Living, stating he loves it.

Well we love you too Stuart, and in huge support and admiration we proudly bring these gorgeous images for you all to discover.

I love this safari inspired style, it's movie set perfect.

Furniture design by Stuart.
You can clearly see the SE Asian influences
mixed with classic Ralph Lauren style.
A beautiful combination.

Gorgeous tropical influences.

Relax in style.

A sunny spot.
Love the large Travellers Palm.

A tropical inspired tablescape.
Lots of interesting
textures on a bamboo butlers tray table.

Stuart likes to mix different cane pieces, but still
manages to keep things fresh and modern.

I like the eclectic mix of furniture pieces here.
It stops the design being too contrived and
makes the home feel collected.

Asian inspired chairs.

This home feels like its evolved over time and that
gives it a lovely relaxed feel.

Romantic, tropical, colonial, plantation style.

A coastal feel dominates this room with its fresh blues,
whites and plenty of texture.

One of Stuarts chair designs for relaxed living.

What a great idea, superb clam shell bowl - lucky Goldie's.

Cushions designed by Stuart, blue and white add such a freshness
to a scheme, adding a pop of colour to tropical neutrals.

Classic designs.

What a tough life.

Here's Stuart relaxing with his dogs. enjoying life
in his residence in Bali.

Well I hope you all enjoyed this Balinese tour.
