Cushion Queen

Confession: I am a cushion queen!

It's an occupational hazard and a strange phenomenon to most men who just don't 'get it'.

Cushions are one of the cheapest, easiest & effective ways to change an interior look. I love their versatility. A pop of colour in a cushion is literally like a face lift for your room.

So when the latest catalogue from Kas cushions arrived on my desk, I went into a tail spin.

Their latest summer edition is divine - let's take a peek.

I love the Kelly green, so fresh & vibrant and the pineapple design is terrific.

Such a cool laid back 'Byron Bay' feel to this shot.

Classic neutrals on a cool verandah.

I love this shot, its got such a cool surfer kind of feel, a real young coastal vibe.

I wonder how many of you lovely coastal girls out there love cushions as much as I do?

Drop me a line and let me know your cushion antics!

Sail Away Saturday - Relax & Have Some Fun

Hello my island lovelies, this weekend's a big birthday weekend for my daughter & I, as we celebrate another year.

So expect lots of cake, pass the parcel and some well deserved bubbles.

Meantime, hope you're all relaxing this weekend like these lovely ladies, although those hammocks look a little precarious, it does make for a great shot.

Enjoy the weekend.

Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside...

These are my kind of sheds!

Sheds beside the sea.

I grew up with these on the English coast, slowly they went into decline as people took exotic holidays abroad, now they are the ultimate seaside accessory.

I'm so happy the beach hut has been resurrected they are so much fun, all brightly coloured they scream summer holidays.

If I owned one it would certainly have to be aqua coloured with a twist of vintage and lashings of coastal accessories.

Ahhhh, I do like to be beside the seaside...

English beach huts all in a row.

Simple, quaint and cute - as well as practical.

Stylised beach hut fabric - how cute.

Beach huts in Scarborough, brilliantly coloured.

Even the birds have beach huts!

The vintage look so suits beach hut interiors.
Loving the Cath Kidston look.

Beach huts in Melbourne, Australia - we need more of these
they're awesome.

Love this simple illustration.

I bought my daughter a pink one of these, beach hut
money box - even comes with a seagull you can sit on
top of the box.

Beautiful Beach Weddings

It's nearly Spring here in the Southern Hemisphere (yippee) and thoughts turn to gorgeous weddings.

In this 2 part series I'll share fresh ideas with you for beach and tropical weddings.

Today, the focus is on beautiful beach wedding inspiration and ideas. Beach weddings are so romantic, ethereal, feminine and fun - just love them.

How absolutely gorgeous is this montage?
The soft floaty pastel colours are so romantic and very attuned with the
coastal elements and setting.

This montage is similar to the last image with maybe a few
more castaway beach images.

These little conch shells make a very pretty border down the aisle.
I really like the woven beach mat idea too.

How cute are these nautical inspired bridesmaids?
The parasols are just so lovely as well as practical.

The finishing touches to add coastal style in detail.

A collection of flip flops for guests at the beach, love the aqua,
would equally look good in a natural basket too tied together
with raffia.

I like this, it encourages guests to really get into the
spirit of a beach wedding with sand between the toes.

Beach weddings are fun, no wonder they're so popular.

I love this, its such a cool idea. Coastal keepsakes in an old vintage
pocket watch.

How funny, an interesting take on the 'Just Married' sign.

Stay tuned for the next installment when we look
 at gorgeous Tropical weddings.

Cool Coastal Finds

As a professional interior designer, I'm often asked, 'where did you get that amazing piece?'.

So, I'm going to open up my address book and give you some exclusives as to where I source the amazing decorating items, you usually only see in magazines.

One of my latest finds was this simple yet elegant decorative hourglass. It's from a company called Amalfi and I bought it through an Australian retail store called Earthborn.

I was lucky enough to get it on sale (double bargain). Earthborn has some cool coastal decorative accessories - worth a look. For my international friends, their website is coming soon, so you won't miss out.

In the same image is an old 1930's book (I love the front cover) picked up from the Salvos (op shop) and a lovely large starfish I picked up in Paradise Point, Gold Coast. I think together they make for a cheerful vintage style coastal vignette, sat in my ever changing cubed book case installations.

I hope these articles will help to inspire you all and give you the secret sources and ideas to re-create the looks stylists put together.
