Castaway Christmas - Rings of Joy

I'm astounded by the creativity seen in recent years transforming the traditional Christmas wreath, and its fantastic.

These beautiful items bring a front door alive and give just a welcoming hint as to what's inside. They're easy to make and don't have to be all that expensive. I've seen wreath bases made from coat hangers, hoses, embroidery hoops, polystyrene etc. With hot glue gun in hand you can create all manner of wonderful creations.

Here's a few more ideas to inspire.

Love the palm, very islander.

This can work for both a coast or country look.

I've included this one, because the red looks stunning against the aqua.

The background to the wreath is just as important in the mix as the wreath itself.
Here the black glossy door really makes the wreath pop.

I love this nautical door, its perfect for the driftwood wreath.

Gorgeous Tropical Artworks

How fantastic is this collection? I just had to share with you all.

I love the simplicity and natural artifacts displayed on this 'gallery' style tropical feature wall.

Each item is beautiful by itself, but together the collection is breathtaking. Fresh, breezy and relaxed I love the whites, greens and ebony mix - perfect.

Best of all this collection is really simple to do and even to make some of these items. So why not have a go at making your own tropical inspired collection of artworks.

For more drama, how about a smokey brown/grey painted backdrop, then these gorgeous pieces would really pop.

Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside...

These are my kind of sheds!

Sheds beside the sea.

I grew up with these on the English coast, slowly they went into decline as people took exotic holidays abroad, now they are the ultimate seaside accessory.

I'm so happy the beach hut has been resurrected they are so much fun, all brightly coloured they scream summer holidays.

If I owned one it would certainly have to be aqua coloured with a twist of vintage and lashings of coastal accessories.

Ahhhh, I do like to be beside the seaside...

English beach huts all in a row.

Simple, quaint and cute - as well as practical.

Stylised beach hut fabric - how cute.

Beach huts in Scarborough, brilliantly coloured.

Even the birds have beach huts!

The vintage look so suits beach hut interiors.
Loving the Cath Kidston look.

Beach huts in Melbourne, Australia - we need more of these
they're awesome.

Love this simple illustration.

I bought my daughter a pink one of these, beach hut
money box - even comes with a seagull you can sit on
top of the box.

Flip Flop Friday - The Week That Was...

I have had a rather extraordinary week.

As a designer, I have surpassed challenges set on 2 high profile display homes, soon to be delivered on site.

I have encouraged my team to be brave in design because it's the only way forward and beyond the crowd.

I have opened up possibilities, crossed over industries and got people talking.

And I have discovered the work of an extraordinary designer, Stuart Membery, and had the real pleasure of chatting to him and showcasing Oceania Island Living.

What a week!

Thank goodness it's flip flop Friday.

Time for some serious R & R.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

India Hicks & David Flint Wood - 6 degrees

I came across this beautiful article today in Lonny Magazine of India Hicks & David Flint Woods interior decorating endeavours on their own properties in Harbour Island.

It's a 6 degrees of separation for me as I knew David in London when we were both in advertising. Little does he probably realise that we both went on to have successful careers in interior design, we both live on tropical islands and we both love the tropical island lifestyle.

So as a friend, it's so lovely to showcase David (and India's) work. Enjoy.

Here's David, relaxed on a tropical verandah, quite different to
the hectic lives we had in London's ad land.

This is quite the safari look.
